Welcome to Our Year 2 Class

Our Class

Welcome to Year 2!

Curriculum

We have a session of Numeracy first thing in the morning. We do mental arithmetic, we solve problems, we master concepts and we reason our findings.

After play, we have our literacy session. We do phonics, lots of reading, writing, spelling and handwriting.

We link all of our topic work (which includes the subjects: history, geography, science, religious education, SEAL and PHSE (social and emotional aspects of learning and personal, health and social education), art and design, design technology and music.

Our current topic investigates the question: Why did the Titanic sink?

Please find our topic overview below.

For more information on our current topic see the curriculum area.

PE

We have PE on a Tuesday afternoon so please bring your PE kit on this day. PE kit should include black shorts and a white t-shirt for indoor PE and tracksuit bottoms, jumper/jacket and suitable shoes/trainers for outdoor games. We are monitoring who brings the correct clothes for PE.

Reading

We hear readers and change books on a daily basis. Each child reads and has their book changed at least once a week. Please bring your book bag with your reading record. Please remember to write a comment.

We have just introduced the Bug Club which enables children to access story books digitally. You will find more information regarding Bug Club on our school website in the Literacy area.

Homework

Homework is a short task each week that reinforces basic skills. Homework is sent home on a Friday and is to be completed before the following Wednesday.

Merits

Merits are given out daily for things like super work, good effort being kind or achieving something extra special.

We also have a merit assembly on a Friday. Merit certificates are given to children in each class for hard work or effort.

If you have any worries or need to see us please do not hesitate to make an appointment at the office to speak to me before or after school.

Thank you

Mrs Sykes
