Welcome to Year 5

Year 5

Year 5 - Mr Fowler (Curlews) 

The Curlews have made a fantastic start to the new school year and have settled well into their new routines. We are very proud of the positive attitude and enthusiasm they have shown so far.
This year promises to be full of exciting learning opportunities. In History, we will be exploring the fascinating world of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, investigating how these groups shaped Britain and influenced life in the past. In Science, we will be studying Space and the Solar System, learning about planets, satellites, and the wonders of our universe. Our Art lessons will focus on the work of Joseph Zbukvic, where the children will develop their watercolour techniques and create their own pieces inspired by his style and use of colour.

PE

Our PE lessons will take place on Mondays and Fridays. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit on these days. A suitable PE kit consists of a white t-shirt and black shorts, jogging bottoms or leggings. For safety reasons, all jewellery, including earrings, should be removed before PE lessons.

Seesaw

Throughout the year, we will continue to share important information and celebrate the children's achievements through Seesaw. If you have not yet connected to the platform, please do so, as it is an important way for us to communicate with families.

Spelling and Reading

This year, we will be placing a strong emphasis on handwriting, spelling and reading. We would greatly appreciate your support at home by encouraging your child to read regularly, practise their weekly spellings, and take pride in their handwriting. Consistent practice, even for a short amount of time each day, can make a significant difference to children's confidence and progress across the curriculum.

We are very much looking forward to a successful and enjoyable year ahead and to sharing the children's learning journey with you.

Welcome to Year 6 - an exciting and important stage in your child's primary school journey. This year is filled with opportunities for growth, leadership and preparation for the transition to secondary school. In Year 6, students are encouraged to become more independent learners while continuing to develop key skills across the curriculum. Our experienced and dedicated teachers, Mrs Syke, Mrs Jacobs and Mrs Walters, are committed to creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment where every child can thrive. From preparing for SATs, to taking on roles of responsibility within the school, our Year 6 pupils are guided and challenged to reach their full potential.

This Autumn Term, our History unit will focus on World War II, exploring key events, significant figures, and the impact the war had on people's lives.

In Geography, we'll be studying renewable energy, learning about sustainable resources and how they affect our world today.

We look forward to working closely with you to ensure your child has a happy, successful, and memorable final year at Primary School.

PE

PE days are Monday and Friday, children should come to school dressed in their PE kits on those days.

The correct kit is a white top and black bottoms. Please dress appropriately as the session can take place both indoors and outdoors depending on the weather.

Homework

Supporting learning at home is an important part of your child’s progress in school. We encourage children to read regularly at home, as this helps to develop fluency, comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading. Weekly spellings will be sent home to practise, helping children to build their spelling confidence and vocabulary. As we move through the year, additional maths materials may also be sent home for children who wish to practise and further develop their mathematical skills. Your support at home makes a valuable difference to your child’s learning journey.

Seesaw is a great way to keep in touch with us for updates and communication throughout the year. You're also very welcome to make an appointment to speak with us at any time through the school office.
